You have set the survey deadline and communicated it accordingly. Shortly before it expires, you notice that the response rate is too low and decide to extend the deadline and give employees more time to take part.
We advise against this!
Experience shows that extending the deadline rarely leads to a significant increase, but it draws all attention to the low level of participation and the low response rate.
We recommend acting early instead! Sending reminder emails early on can usually increase participation.
Example participation period from the LamaPoll dashboard
- You can see low participation at the start: the survey start date was set incorrectly.
- On the 24th, a reminder email was sent, resulting in a visible increase.
- This quickly tapered off. Shortly afterwards, a second reminder email was sent.
- This led to another increase.
Conclusion
Invitations and reminder emails can generate a lot of participation, but their effect wears off very quickly. If you act early and send reminder emails, however, you will reach more participants than if you simply extend the deadline.
In the example above, extending the deadline would not have helped.
