Including a prize draw in an employee survey
In our experience, prize draws as part of an employee survey are very well received by staff. Incentives such as prize draws can increase response rates while also improving satisfaction and engagement.
Taking part in an employee survey must be voluntary. This includes ensuring that individuals do not face any disadvantage if they choose not to take part (other than missing the opportunity to contribute their own ideas towards participation, improvement and further development). Benefits and incentives for taking part, however, are welcome.
The anonymity of the survey can still be maintained despite incentives, provided that responses and personal data are stored and evaluated separately. When including a prize draw, you should consider the following points:
- Prize draw participants’ data (especially their contact details) must not be stored together with their questionnaire responses.
- Warning: Otherwise, anonymity cannot be guaranteed.
- With a prize draw, the participation rate can only be used to a limited extent for further metrics and benchmarks (some companies link employee motivation to metrics such as survey participation rates). The results themselves can, of course, still be benchmarked.
- Prize draw participants should not be analysed or published, as employees who do not wish to take part could otherwise be exposed.
Incentives increase the motivation to take part in a survey more than once. We therefore recommend closed surveys with individual keys to rule out multiple participation.
The forwarding feature in LamaPoll is important for a prize draw in an employee survey. You can redirect respondents from any page of a survey to any other page or survey. For example, you can ask whether the employee would like to take part in the prize draw. If so, they can proceed to a prize draw survey or to a form on the company website where they enter their email address. This keeps survey results and personal data separate.
