Pre-testing your customer survey
Once you have set up your customer survey, finalised the design and everything appears to be correct, it is time for the pre-test. This is important because...
- … you do not want hundreds or thousands of customers to discover an error.
- …once the survey has actually launched, you can no longer make major changes.
- …only a proper field test will show whether all your dynamic rules, elements and questions work together correctly.
Conducting the pre-test
A pre-test involves conducting your customer survey under controlled conditions.
► Proceed as follows:
- Protect your customer survey with a password – this prevents external visitors from accidentally finding the unfinished customer questionnaire.
- Launch the customer survey – otherwise no one can test it.
- Once agreed, send invitations to a few colleagues. Use the same email and covering message that you intend to use later.
- Wait for feedback. Our survey tool shows results immediately and in real time.
Depending on the feedback and after consulting the pre-test participants, you may need to make changes. After a successful pre-test, you can send the customer invitations with confidence.
Involve colleagues directly in the pre-test: From the Gold plan onwards, employees can leave comments on individual questions in the LamaPoll editor — covering wording, answer options or skip logic.
Our page on conducting a pre-test also explains how to plan test runs properly, identify common sources of error and obtain meaningful feedback.
