How often you run a pulse check depends on how you process the results. Allow enough time to analyse the feedback before the next round starts. We recommend a monthly pulse check with no more than 5 to 10 questions.
Sample questions for your pulse check
Respondents answer on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 = not at all, 10 = completely).
Tasks and workload
- How satisfied are you with your current tasks?
- How well can you manage your workload within your regular working hours?
- How valued do you feel for your work?
Team and leadership
- How comfortable do you feel in your team or department?
- How well supported do you feel by your manager?
- How respectfully are you treated by colleagues and managers?
Company and development
- How safe do you feel at the company?
- How well informed do you feel about important developments at the company?
- How satisfied are you with your opportunities for development?
Add one open question at the end, for example: “What should we improve next?”
Tips for your pulse check questions
- Ask the same core questions on the same scale every month. That is the only way to compare results over time.
- Keep the wording neutral and cover only one aspect per question.
- Run the pulse check anonymously so that your employees answer openly.
- Share the results with your team and use them to decide on next steps. Read how this works in three phases in the pulse check process.
