LamaPoll or SurveyMonkey?
Whether LamaPoll or SurveyMonkey is the better fit for your organisation depends on your requirements. If data location, who operates the service, information security and personal support matter most to you, LamaPoll offers an alternative designed specifically for the German and European market.
Data protection and data location
SurveyMonkey states that customers outside the United States generally contract with SurveyMonkey Europe UC in Ireland. At the same time, SurveyMonkey states that most European customer data is stored on servers in the United States. According to SurveyMonkey, storage in its EU data centre in Ireland is only available to Enterprise customers. For international data transfers, SurveyMonkey refers to mechanisms including intra-group agreements and standard contractual clauses.
Even with EU storage, one key point remains: SurveyMonkey is a US company, and its EU data centre runs on Amazon Web Services infrastructure. Both are therefore subject to the US CLOUD Act, which under certain conditions allows US authorities to access data even when it is stored outside the United States. LamaPoll is a German company and does not use US cloud services. The CLOUD Act does not apply to us.
Important: This does not mean that SurveyMonkey is generally non-compliant with the GDPR. Organisations should assess whether the contractual structure, data location, subprocessors and any international data transfers meet their own data protection and compliance requirements.
At LamaPoll, customer data is processed exclusively in Germany. We manage the root servers used for the service ourselves and use only subprocessors based in Germany. Information security and certifications
LamaPoll's information security management system is externally certified to ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27017 and ISO/IEC 27018. LamaPoll also holds a TISAX® label at Assessment Level 2. These credentials cover the organisational and technical framework of our operations and are particularly relevant to organisations with formal security and supplier requirements.
Features and customisation
LamaPoll is designed for professional online surveys and is used for purposes including employee surveys, customer surveys, research and evaluation. Questionnaires can be extensively adapted in terms of content and design. Which solution is the better functional fit should be assessed against the specific features, roles, integrations and reporting options you require.
Control of your data
With LamaPoll, you determine which data you collect through your surveys and how long it is required. Survey data can be exported and deleted. Processing is carried out in accordance with the agreed purposes and the applicable data processing agreement.
